Bogren Digital has released the IR Loader IRDX Studio, which features IRDX® Technology. It is also available in a free version without the IRDX® Technology.
The IR loader IRDX Studio has five slots and a graphical mixer, and is part of the IRDX series, which previously included the IRDX Core. IRDX Core is not an IR loader, it is placed in a DAW behind an amp simulator or IR loader to refine its output signal - just as you would get if you cranked up a large speaker cabinet to an incredibly high volume.
So what are the differences between IRDX Studio and IRDX Core?

Overview of IRDX Studio
IRDX Studio by Bogren Digital is a modern, free IR loader plugin designed specifically for guitarists and music producers who use realistic cabinet simulations ("in the box").
The plugin is available for macOS (10.15 and up) and Windows 10+ and runs as VST3, AU, and AAX. It aims to streamline the workflow when working with impulse responses (IRs) while improving sound quality through innovative technology.
Key Features of the IR Loader
IRDX Studio offers a range of powerful features:
- Five-slot IR blending via a graphical mixer, where the blend is intuitively controlled by moving a point within a geometric shape (triangle, square, etc.).
- Individual editing per slot: Each of the five IR slots features a 5-band EQ, resonance control, and phase delay for precise sound shaping.
- Efficient library management: With filters, favorites, duplicate detection, and a preview mode, large IR collections can be quickly searched without having to load the files completely.
- Audition Mode: Allows you to listen to individual IRs in isolation without affecting the current mix.
- IR Export: Any combination can be exported as a single .wav file—ideal for hardware modelers like Axe-Fx or Helix.
IRDX® Technology – Dynamics for Static Impulse Responses
The key technological advantage of IRDX Studio is IRDX® Technology, a proprietary development by producer Jens Bogren. This technology addresses a major weakness of conventional IRs:
Impulse responses are static - they capture only a single moment in a speaker’s response curve, not its dynamic behavior.
Real guitar speakers react non-linearly: they compress, move air, and distort depending on the intensity of the strike. IRDX uses machine learning to mimic this dynamics. The result:
- Lively, three-dimensional sound - every note reacts differently, depending on playing technique.
- Better integration in the mix, as the sound doesn’t come across as "static" or "lifeless".
- The effect is subtle but measurable: when comparing with and without IRDX enabled, the sound becomes more responsive, dynamic, and realistic - as if played through a real speaker cabinet.
Pricing and Availability
IRDX Studio is free to download and use. It includes the Bogren Digital IR Demo Pack. IRDX® Technology is available as an optional upgrade for $49 (or €49). You can test the technology in the plugin for free for 7 days before purchasing.
Alternatively, a bundle with IRDX Core is available at a discounted price.
