New release | Boutique Tones - Mezzabarba Mzero OD

Published: 27.07.2026

Boutique Tones offers a wide range of IRs and captures from ToneX, Kemper, NAM, Helix Hedrush, Quad Cortex, and others. In July 2026, they released their first guitar amp sim, the Mezzabarba Mzero OD.

The Mezzabarba MZero OD software from Boutique Tones is an official plugin recreation of the tube amplifier of the same name, developed in direct collaboration with designer Pierangelo Mezzabarba. At its core is TORQUE™ technology, which provides an exact replication of the circuitry at the component level and emulates not only the sound but also the dynamic response of the original.

Core Features and Modeling

The plugin replicates the complete signal chain of a professional guitar rig. The amplifier section features two channels

Channel 1 (Drive) is based on the M ZERO Standard Preamp and ranges from clean to British crunch, while Channel 2 (Overdrive) is designed for harmonically rich, warm overdrive sounds all the way up to heavy distortion.

Four meticulously modeled pedals are integrated before the amplifier:

  • A studio compressor for more punch and sustain.
  • A boost pedal inspired by the legendary TS10.
  • A transparent overdrive pedal based on the King of Tone.
  • A classic distortion effect (“Rodent”) for aggressive sounds.

Cabinet Section and IR Loader

The Cabinet section features a particularly advanced design and utilizes dynamic IR technology. Instead of static snapshots, the speakers are recorded with every available microphone at over a hundred positions and interpolated in real time. This allows you to freely move the virtual microphone in four dimensions (horizontal, vertical, distance, angle), which corresponds to the behavior of a real microphone in front of a real cabinet.

The plugin features a built-in IR loader for custom impulse responses. Each of the two parallel cabinet channels can be switched between the internal cabinet engine and external IRs. The plugin supports loading custom IR files and automatically resamples them if they do not match the current sample rate, eliminating the need for manual conversion.

Effects and Workflow

The Cabinet section is followed by a 9-band graphic EQ that is specifically tuned for guitar frequencies.  The Post-FX section includes chorus, a dual delay (analog and digital), and a three-mode reverb. All of these effects support spillover, which means that reverb and delay tails fade out naturally when switching presets rather than being cut off abruptly.

For practical use, the plugin also offers:

  • A built-in, precise tuner.
  • Intelligent input calibration that automatically adjusts gain staging.
  • Full MIDI implementation for controlling all parameters.
  • A standalone mode that allows operation without a DAW, ideal for live performances or practice.
