New NAM Browser | Jordan Valeriote and TONE3000 - NAM Rig

Jordan Valeriote, in collaboration with TONE3000, has released the free guitar amp sim NAM Rig. NAM Rig is a Built-in TONE3000 browser that allows you to connect to the TONE3000 library via the TONE3000 API.

This allows you to browse, load, save, and manage NAM and Cab/IR files.

And all without having to switch between apps. At least, that's what TONE3000 promises in its blog post.


The Features

NAM Rig offers the following main features:

  • Search and sort tones by trending, newest, best match, or most downloaded
  • Filter by gear type, including amps, cabinets, and pedals
  • Load any TONE3000 tone from the community
  • Load any private tone from your account
  • Save and organize favorites that sync with your TONE3000 account

NAM Rig supports A2. You can choose between A2-Full and A2-Lite.

You need an account on namrig.com (to download NAM Rig) and TONE3000.


In addition, NAM Rig also includes:

  • A built-in tuner
  • Custom preset saving
  • Light and dark interface themes
  • Adjustable interface zoom
  • Automatic tone loading while browsing
  • Automatic Plugin Delay Compensation (PDC)
  • Windows ASIO support

  • VST3, AU, AAX, Standalone
  • Windows, macOs


Playing with NAM Rig

Aside from the TONE3000 integration, NAM Rig has three loaders:

  • one for a pedal
  • one for the amp (for an amp head or full rig)
  • one for the Cabinet (Impulse Response)

Each one can be turned on and off.

The Controls are:

  • Gate, Gain
  • Low Mid, High (for the amp)
  • Mix (for Cab / IR), Output

There are no effects, such as EQ, reverb, chorus, delay, or compressor.


Who is NAM Rig suitable for?

NAM Rig is primarily intended for use in a DAW, even though a standalone version is available. 

Since NAM Rig has no effects and consists only of a pedal, amp, and cabinet, the plugin isn’t really suitable for playing guitar independently of a DAW.

The main focus of NAM Rig is clearly on TONE3000 integration and organizing NAM and IR files.

If you prefer an all-in-one plugin, you can try Soundshed Guitar. The TONE3000 integration there is at least as good, if not better.

With NAM Rig, it’s a hassle to find the NAM or IR saved in a preset later on. I also miss a link to the corresponding TONE3000 page for the capture. I don’t want to just work in the plugin all the time; I also want to be able to quickly check the website and see what other information is available.

This is the first version of NAM Rig. Further developments, additional options, and optimizations should follow over time.
