With HEAVIER™, Otto Audio is releasing its seventh plugin. The Guitar Amp Sim combines three functions in one: amp sim transformer (for hot-rodding existing amp simulations), IR loader and doubler.
It’s said to have taken nearly three years to develop the plugin. Now the time has come—HEAVIER™ is here.
But what are Heavier and “hot-rodding”?
Hot-Rodding
“Hot-rodding” is a term from U.S. car culture: You take a standard vehicle and modify it to get more power, speed, or aggression out of it. Applied to the world of guitar, it means modifying an amplifier (or amp simulation) so that it can do more than it was designed to do out of the box—typically more gain, more punch, more “impact.”
In the context of HEAVIER, here’s how it works:
- You keep your existing amp sim—no matter which manufacturer it’s from (Neural DSP, Ampeg, Fractal, Tube Screamer, etc.). HEAVIER doesn’t replace it; instead, it sits behind it in the signal chain.
- HEAVIER “modifies” the result—it injects additional harmonics, more fullness, more low-end presence, and a slight dB boost without causing audible distortion. The tone becomes more transparent, fuller, thicker, and more present.
- Three Injector modes control how the transformation takes effect:
- Mode I: Increases realism—particularly noticeable with clean and low-gain tones.
- Mode II: Adds harmonic intensity—more grit, aggression, and growl.
- Mode III: “Firm Tone”—makes riffs firmer, more compact, and more aggressive.
Simply put: HEAVIER is the digital equivalent of an amp technician taking a Marshall or Mesa and adding an extra gain stage to it—except that here, you can do it non-destructively in the DAW, with a control ranging from “subtle” to “exaggerated,” and with any amp sim you already own.
The name “Transformer” in the product title should be taken literally: HEAVIER transforms the sound of your existing simulation rather than providing its own amp emulation.
Content
- Main Heavier Knob: Produces a more transparent, powerful, full, and thick tone without audible distortion—ranging from subtle to extreme.
- 3 Injector Modes: (I) Enhanced Tone Realism, (II) Harmonic Intensity (more grit, aggression, growl), (III) Firm Tone (solid riff character).
- Integrated IRs: 22 HEAVIER IR Custom Blends, 40 “NXT LVL” Premium Cab Captures, 9 different cabs, 22 different speaker types.
- NOS / DEPTH / DENSITY: Additional controls for slam, spatial depth, and tone intensity.
- IR Loader: Placement of IRs in the stereo image, up to 11× the dynamic range of a standard IR loader.
- WIDE Doubler: Automatic double-tracking with adjustable timing and tightness, including bass preservation.
- DARKER/BRIGHTER: Global tone shaping.
- Formats: 64-bit VST3 / AU / AAX, macOS (Intel & Apple Silicon) and Windows 10+.
Target Audience
Guitar producers and sound engineers who want to further enhance their existing collection of amp sims and IRs—especially in the genres of heavy music, metal, down-tuning, and baritone. The plugin is designed for users who already own amp sims and IRs and want to extract more “punch, richness, and presence” from them.
