New Amp | Polychrome DSP - Iroko

Published: 25.07.2026

PolyChrome DSP has released Iroko, another guitar amp simulator featuring a range of effects and a two-channel amplifier.

IROKO by PolyChrome DSP is a state-of-the-art guitar amplifier plugin and standalone application that stands out for its unique combination of dynamic playability and a comprehensive effects suite.

Key Features and Architecture

At the heart of IROKO is a boutique-style two-channel amplifier based on the proprietary PureFlow™ Amplifier Architecture. This technology delivers ultra-dynamic response, authentic touch sensitivity, and ultra-low latency.  The amplifier covers a wide range, from crystal-clear clean tones to heavily saturated distortion sounds for rock and metal.

A standout feature is the Boost function: by adding an extra tube stage, the two-channel amp effectively transforms into a versatile four-channel amplifier. Additional switches such as “Bright” (for more presence) and “Tight” (to tighten the bass when tuning low) allow for precise tone shaping.

Extensive Range of Effects

IROKO offers more than just an amp simulation; it functions as a complete “Sonic Playground” with over 300 presets. The software includes an extensive collection of pre- and post-amp effects:

  • Pre-Effects: These include a classic wah-wah (with auto-wah), a modern compressor, multi-modulation (chorus, flanger, phaser), tremolo, vibes, an aggressive noise gate (KILLGATE), and pitch shifting (DUO SHIFT) powered by HyperTune™.
  • Drive & Fuzz: Various overdrive pedals with vintage and modern modes are available, as well as a fuzz pedal for harmonically rich saturation.
  • Pro Effects: New additions include Delay Pro (eight types, including Reverse, Tape, and VHS) and Reverb Pro (six types, including Halo, Grand, and Stage), which are designed for complex, atmospheric soundscapes.
  • Speaker Simulation: Twenty custom-designed speaker chains with options for adjusting resonance and spatial sound are built in, eliminating the need to load external IRs.

Target Audience and Applications

The software is designed for guitarists and producers looking for an “all-in-one” solution to create professional sounds without external plugins.

  • Studio Musicians & Producers: Thanks to its low latency and high-quality mastering EQs, IROKO is ideal for direct-in (DI) recordings and quickly finding “mix-ready” sounds.
  • Modern Guitarists: The range of sounds caters specifically to genres such as progressive rock, metal, and ambient, while features like tightening for low-tuned guitars and advanced pitch-shifting effects support modern playing techniques.
  • Live and Home Users: Since the purchase includes both the plugin (VST, AU, AAX, CLAP) and the standalone application, the software can be used both within a DAW environment and directly for practicing or jamming without a computer interface.

Which specific guitar IRs are included?

Third-party IRs (such as “Mesa 4x12” or “Vox V30”). Instead, the software relies on 20 custom-designed “Speaker Chains”, which are conceived as integrated, self-contained systems.

These Speaker Chains are characterized by the following features:

  • No external IRs required: The speaker simulations are firmly integrated into IROKO’s architecture and perfectly tuned to the amp’s clean and crunch channels. The goal is to spare the user the trouble of loading external impulse responses.
  • Customizable parameters: Each of the 20 chains features dedicated controls for Resonance (low-end resonance), Air (high-end airiness), and Room (room presence).
  • Speaker Voice Edit: Instead of selecting different microphone setups, IROKO offers the “Speaker Voice” feature. This allows you to directly edit the frequency response of the speaker cabinet to shape the sound from “punchy” to “focused” without having to rely on external files.

Although IROKO technically supports loading custom IRs (“advanced IR loading”), the focus of the included content is entirely on these 20 proprietary, optimized chains, which are advertised as “mix-ready.”
