New IR Studio | ReactorDSP - Cab Reactor Driftwood

With Cab Reactor Driftwood, ReactorDSP released not just another IR loader in mid-August 2026, but a complete cabinet IR studio for e-guitars.

A typical IR loader does exactly one thing: it convolves the input signal with a loaded impulse response. The result is static—what goes in comes out in the same form (filtered only by the IR). No dynamic behavior, no interaction with the signal source.

Cab Reactor Driftwood builds on this convolution but adds multiple layers that approximate a real cabinet setup.

Impedance Interaction

  • Cab Reactor Driftwood: Simulates the electrical interaction between the power amp and the speaker’s impedance curve.  This is relevant when you’re feeding only a preamp signal or a pedalboard without a power amp—in that case, you’re missing the “feel” that a real tube power amp brings to the speaker.

Smooth (Resonance Suppressor)

  • Standard IR Loader: Missing
  • Cab Reactor Driftwood: A spectral, dynamic phase vocoder that attenuates harsh, “fizzy” peaks only when they spike—the rest of the sound remains unaffected. Replaces a downstream EQ/de-essing chain.

Tightness (Bass-Controller)

  • Standard IR Loader: Missing
  • Cab Reactor Driftwood: Dynamic multiband controller (C4-style) with crossover controls and attack/release. Keeps chugs and palm mutes tight without making the tone too thin.

IR Blending

  • Standard IR Loader: Usually A/B or 2-way
  • Cab Reactor Driftwood: 8 slots simultaneously on an XY pad, with phase balancing and resonance tuning per slot.

Speaker Drive

  • Standard IR Loader: Missing
  • Cab Reactor Driftwood: Distortion/drive on the cab signal to simulate breakup.

Room Mics

  • Standard IR Loader: Missing
  • Cab Reactor Driftwood: Additional room character mics for depth.

Tracking Mode

  • Cab Reactor Driftwood: Temporarily disables the two latency-prone modules (Smooth Dynamic, Tightness) → zero latency during playback.


In short: An IR loader is a static filter. Cab Reactor Driftwood is a dynamic cabinet system that simulates not only “how the cabinet sounds” but also “how the cabinet responds to the signal”—and directly integrates post-processing (de-harshing, bass tightness) that you’d have to replicate with external plugins when using a pure IR loader.


The features of Driftwood

  • 74 handmade IRs, recorded by mixing engineer Lasse Lammert from his personal Driftwood 4×12 (speakers: V30, G12V-60, Creamback, Karnivore; a dozen studio microphones, various positions). 
  • 8-slot IR blender with XY pad: load up to 8 IRs simultaneously and morph them in real time—including per-slot phase balancing and resonance tuning. You can load your own WAV IRs at any time.
  • Smooth: spectral, dynamic resonance suppressor (phase vocoder) that attenuates harsh peaks only when they’re outliers—replaces an entire post-cab processing chain. 
  • Tightness: dynamic bass controller with crossover and attack/release controls. 
  • Impedance Simulation: Emulates the electrical interaction between the power amplifier and the speaker, which standard IR loaders lack. 
  • Speaker Drive + Room Mics for added character. 
  • Tracking Mode: Briefly disables the two latency-prone modules (Tightness, Dynamic Smooth) → zero latency for recording.

About Lasse Lammert

Lasse Lammert is an internationally renowned German producer, mixing, and mastering engineer specializing in heavy metal and rock productions. He runs LSD Studios in Lübeck (just outside Hamburg) and is known in the scene as the “guitar tone guy”—his trademark is crystal-clear yet analog-warm guitar sounds.


Background & Credits:

Driftwood Amp Development: He was involved in the development of the Driftwood Purple Nightmare (a Saxon manufacturer based in Obergurig) and uses its 4×12 cabinets in his productions—it is precisely this “Driftwood” 4×12 cabinet that serves as the source for the 74 IRs in Cab Reactor Driftwood.

His own plugin projects (beyond ReactorDSP):

  • STL Tones “Tonality: Lasse Lammert (2021): a complete amp/cab/pedal suite that digitally replicates his personal amp collection (including the licensed Driftwood Purple Nightmare) and his cabs—for example, 9,600 IRs were measured for a single cab.
  • ReactorDSP (2026): Here, he provided the IRs for Cab Reactor Driftwood and the signature reverb presets for Space Reactor—so he’s not just a “guest engineer,” but is actively involved in the development of the plugins.

In short: Lammert is an experienced metal producer from Germany whose personal gear (amps, cabs, microphones) and microphone techniques form the basis for the IR libraries in the ReactorDSP plugins.
