What is LiveSPICE?
LiveSPICE is a real-time SPICE simulator for audio signals that allows you to design analog circuits and simulate them immediately using live audio signals (e.g., from a guitar) without having to build physical components. It is also an open-source hobby project.
Using the software requires a basic understanding of electronics (reading schematics, understanding component functions), which makes LiveSPICE less appealing to complete beginners with no technical interest, but ideal for the typical electronics hobbyist. In the LiveSPICE main application, you load or draw the circuit. To use the circuit in a DAW, you load the built-in VST plugin. This plugin is tightly integrated with the main application; you cannot share it as a separate, standalone file that works without the LiveSPICE installation.
- Real-time simulation: Processes signals from audio inputs with minimal latency and outputs the result directly to the speakers.
- Visual editor: Includes a user-friendly schematic editor for creating and editing circuits.
- VST Plugin: Includes a VST plugin to use the designed circuits as effects in a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation).
- Component Library: Features a growing library of models, including operational amplifiers, transistors, vacuum tubes, and transformers. External SPICE libraries can also be loaded.
- Platform & Requirements: It is a Windows application that requires the Microsoft .NET 6.0 Runtime. An ASIO-compatible audio interface is recommended.
- Open Source: The project is available as open source on GitHub and uses its own computer algebra system to optimize simulations.
